[MALE COMPANY]
One two three four
[FULL COMPANY (EXCEPT HAMILTON AND BURR)]
Five six seven eight nine-
[BURR]
There are ten things you need to know
[COMPANY]
Number one!
[BURR]
We rowed across the Hudson at dawn
My friend, William P. Van Ness signed on as my-
[BURR AND COMPANY]
Number two!
[BURR]
Hamilton arrived with his crew:
Nathaniel Pendleton and a doctor that he knew
[COMPANY]
Number three!
[BURR]
I watched Hamilton examine the terrain
I wish I could tell you what was happ’ning in his brain
This man has poisoned my political pursuits!
[COMPANY]
Most disputes die and no one shoots!
Number four!
[BURR]
Hamilton drew first position
Looking, to the world, like a man on a mission
This is a soldier with a marksman’s ability
The doctor turned around so he could have deniability
[COMPANY]
Five!
[BURR]
Now I didn’t know this at the time
But we were-
[BURR AND PHILIP & HAMILTON]
Near the same spot (Near the same spot)
Your son died, is that (My son died, is that)
Why-(Why-)
[COMPANY]
Six!
[BURR]
He examined his gun with such rigor?
I watched as he methodically fiddled with the trigger
[COMPANY]
Seven!
[BURR]
Confession time? Here’s what I got:
My fellow soldiers’ll tell you I’m a terrible shot
[COMPANY]
Number eight!
[BURR/HAMILTON/ENSEMBLE MEN]
Your last chance to negotiate
Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight
[BURR]
They won’t teach you this in your classes
But look it up, Hamilton was wearing his glasses
Why? If not to take deadly aim?
It’s him or me, the world will never be the same
I had only one thought before the slaughter:
This man will not make an orphan of my daughter
[COMPANY]
Number nine!
[BURR]
Look him in the eye, aim no higher
Summon all the courage you require
Then count:
[COMPANY]
One two three four five six seven eight nine
Number ten paces! Fire!-
[HAMILTON]
I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory
Is this where it gets me, on my feet, sev’ral feet ahead of me?
I see it coming, do I run or fire my gun or let it be?
There is no beat, no melody
Burr, my first friend, my enemy
Maybe the last face I ever see
If I throw away my shot, is this how you’ll remember me?
What if this bullet is my legacy?
Legacy. What is a legacy?
It’s planting seeds in a garden you never get to see
I wrote some notes at the beginning of a song someone will sing for me
America, you great unfinished symphony, you sent for me
You let me make a difference
A place where even orphan immigrants
Can leave their fingerprints and rise up
I’m running out of time. I’m running, and my time’s up
Wise up. Eyes up
I catch a glimpse of the other side
Laurens leads a soldiers’ chorus on the other side
My son is on the other side
He’s with my mother on the other side
Washington is watching from the other side
Teach me how to say goodbye
Rise up, rise up, rise up
Eliza
My love, take your time
I’ll see you on the other side
Raise a glass to freedom...
[BURR AND COMPANY]
He aims his pistol at the sky-
[BURR]
Wait!
[BURR]
I strike him right between his ribs
I walk towards him, but I am ushered away
They row him back across the Hudson
I get a drink
[COMPANY]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[BURR]
I hear wailing in the streets
[COMPANY]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[BURR]
Somebody tells me, “You’d better hide.”
[COMPANY]
Aaaah
Aaaah
Aaaah
[BURR]
They say
[BURR AND ANGELICA]
Angelica and Eliza-
[BURR]
Were both at his side when he died
Death doesn’t discriminate
Between the sinners and the saints
It takes and it takes and it takes
History obliterates
In every picture it paints
It paints me and all my mistakes
When Alexander aimed
At the sky
He may have been the first one to die
But I’m the one who paid for it
I survived, but I paid for it
Now I’m the villain in your history
I was too young and blind to see...
I should’ve known
I should’ve known
The world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me
The world was wide enough for both Hamilton and me

Stuff I noticed different from TDC:
-Burr doesn't sing with the ensemble with the "most disputes and no one shoots" part
-The confession time line references yhe 7th number in TDC (Confess your sins, ready for the moment of blah blah blah)
-Since I think, I THINK their seconds didn't have actors, only the two of them sung it. I meant in the your last chance to negotiate blah blah blah, you get it.
-Burr took Hamilton's line in TDC saying the look him in the eye line to Laurens
All things I noticed that either compared or referenced TDC. (Ten duel commandments)
Other things that referenced other songs
-Hamilton's whole verse (before the eyes up part) is a reference to his solo in My Shot
-His Eliza part also referenced the bridge of Helpless (Eliza, I don't have a dollar to my..)
-The he aims his pistol to the sky is a reference to Blow Us All Away, teaching Philip what to do in the Eacker duel.
Those 3 are the only ones I could find, lemme know if there are any more then I'll edit it and credit the person who told me.

What a normal person hears: America, you great unfinished symphony!
What I hear: L'MANBURG MY UNFINISHED SYMPHONY! FOREVER UNFINISHED!

Who. The fuck. Disliked this?!

Why did eight just go through and dislike all these songs?

Why am I getting upset about somebody that died so long ago
Kontrxller
The challenge, demand satisfaction
If they apologize, no need for further action
Number two
If they don't, grab a friend, that's your second
Your lieutenant when there's reckoning to be reckoned
Number three
Have your seconds meet face to face
Negotiate a peace
Or negotiate a time and place
This is commonplace, 'specially 'tween recruits
Most disputes die, and no one shoots
Number four
If they don't reach a peace, that's alright
Time to get some pistols and a doctor on site
You pay him in advance, you treat him with civility
You have him turn around so he can have deniability
Five
Duel before the sun is in the sky
Pick a place to die where it's high and dry
Number six
Leave a note for your next of kin
Tell 'em where you been
Pray that hell or heaven lets you in
Seven
Confess your sins
Ready for the moment of adrenaline when you finally face your opponent
Number eight
Your last chance to negotiate
Send in your seconds, see if they can set the record straight
Alexander
Aaron Burr, sir
Can we agree that duels are dumb and immature?
Sure
But your man has to answer for his words, Burr
With his life? We both know that's absurd, sir
Hang on, how many men died because Lee was inexperienced and ruinous?
Okay, so we're doin' this
Number nine
Look 'em in the eye, aim no higher
Summon all the courage you require
Then count
One two three four
Five six seven eight nine
Number
Ten paces

I kind of wish that the lyrics included Burr's full quote of "Had I read Sterne more and Voltaire less, I should have known the world was wide enough for Hamilton and me." Like Burr was a well read man but not read enough, you know. Still a good song.
Amanda P
Fun history fact: So Hamilton wrote (and told the doctor) that he intended not to shoot at all, this would have violated one of the 25 duel commandments however and when Burr learned about that he responded, "Contemptible, if true." Also a thrown away shot was commonly shot into the ground and not the sky.

The “I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory...” monologue is almost Shakespearean. I love it so much; it’s such an underrated and passionate moment. Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius.
There is a Spy Among Us
I searched that for the Riders Fandub.

@Het Steills Exactly! If this doesn't go down in history as an iconic passage I will time-travel forward to yell at future literary scholars. It's so haunting, it sticks with you. "You great unfinished symphony..." Man, Lin-Manuel Miranda is a genius.
Het Steills
God, I know! this song... "There is no beat, no melody." It's so... I don't know. Beautiful? Terrifying?
Hallaloth
Ah but this song! It really pushes back to so many moments throughout this entire performance, hittng on every major moment in his life literally your 'life flashing before your eyes' moment and its done so well.
The same can be said for Burr as well. They tell you in the first song how the story ends and you get to see the tension build through the entire performance. Burr is as much the main character as Hamilton himself is.

Burr my first friend my emeny maybe the last face I ever see if I throw away my shot is this how you remember me. .....HE SAYS IN PYRENEES.....
IF LISTEN TO THE WHOLE MUSIC0AL YOULL GET IT
Charli ye
I've always wondered why Burr yells "WAIT" Right before he shoots Hamilton... Does anyone know why?
Charli ye
@Hallaloth Ok that makes sense - thankyou :)
Hallaloth
Likely because he noticed at that exact moment that Hamilton had no intention of shooting him as he bimself was pulling the trigger. Its that panicked exclamation when there is nothing you can do. At least the world set by this play,

does anyone think Alexander sounds a bit mental in the monologue like part.
•Authentic Cloud•
@Nikato FTW yeah, that's kinda what I think to. At least he gets to see the people he loved. :)
Nikato FTW
I think it's more of his life flashing before his eyes?
•Authentic Cloud•
@Charli ye yup.
ya big boy man ha
He deserved it tho..
Charli ye
Yeah... Coz he's literally about to get shot
Amanda Gower
I remember learning about this in middle school right around the time Cheney shot his friend while hunting, it was a weird parallel.
DipStick Baby
In real life Aaron burr didn’t feel bad about killing Alexander and actually bragged about killing him.
No Lights
Well everything is legal in Jersey. Also, the real life Hamilton did some crazy BS. Like the Reynolds Pamphlet, and loads of other stuff. Personally, I don't think he deserved it, but from a historical perspective, then yes.
SuperBowserSadjor
Here’s the thing the entire time They knew each other Burr was patient and never told his opinions and Hamilton was reckless and told his opinions and beliefs to everyone but in the one instance where it mattered most Hamilton was Quiet and didn’t tell anyone his plan but Burr was reckless and let everyone know his intent to end Hamilton’s life
model maker
@wasso yeah I realize that now lol
wasso
@model maker Nah, Burr should've believed in something. No one is gonna vote for you if they're voting for nothing.
model maker
@ya big boy man ha well yeah Hamilton is kinda a jeark he hates Jefferson then makes him win so burr doesn’t that’s pretty rude
CharliPlayz
best song in the play

"He aims his missile at the sky!"
"WAIT-"
This always gets me. Everytime.
Angel 101
Didn't know they dueled with missiles instead of pistols. History lied to me
W.D. Gaster
Not to be that guy, but it's pistol, not missile
Oscar Inglis
Pistol you mean?
wallspiderr
it gets me every time too, also i think you mean pistol
Alfie
Charli ye he says missile
beans
Who is the one whom disliked this
SAMANTHA
The one dislike must be Aaron Burr
Het Steills
@Karen Burroughs ...that's the exact opposite of his character-
W.D. Gaster
Eight now, for no good reason
Elijah A.
I'm pretty sure George Washington was one of the only politicians that liked Hamilton because I think he was the only one Hamilton treated as a superior/with respect.
Karen Burroughs
Based on this musical, Burr was the true definition of a hater!
Blobfish Girl
*I had only one thought before the slaughter. This man would not make an orphan of my daughter..!*
Jada Greene
It's so ironic how in the song "The Ten Duel Commandments" he says,"Can we both agree duels are dumb and immature" and in "Your Obiedent Servent" he basically challenged Hamilton to a duel.
Nanof Urbiznis
He regretted it soon after though... that's not hypocrisy he was just too emotionally charged, and when you're too emotionally charged you're basically dumb and immature regardless.
Noah
Uhhhh guys Aaron Burr wasn’t actually Charles Lee’s second in that duel. That was completely made up in the play... so it doesn’t make sense to compare him in those situations.
Aurora Sanford
@Toit Nups ok :)
Toit Nups
@Aurora Sanford it's just some context. don't worry about it

@Toit Nups sorry I'm in 8th grade I still haven't learned about that stuff yet

I remember when i discovered and listened to this song the first time I thought this was like 3 different songs 😂
PS: this is my favorite song next to "Who Lives Who Dies, Who Tells your Story?" And "My Shot"
W.D. Gaster
My favorites are this and the ones you mentioned, plus Guns and Ships, Non-Stop, Dear Theodosia, Yorktown, and Alexander Hamilton
Daniel David
@jadc08 When Ten Things, One Thing was in, the soliloquy didn't exist. They merged Ten Things, One Thing with The World Was Wide Enough and replaced Hamilton's part with a soliloquy.
